Evidence used

  • No CISA KEV confirmation is currently recorded.
  • EPSS is 0.39% for the current model date.

Compensating controls

  • Apply the linked authoritative mitigation while planning the permanent fix.
  • Restrict the affected network interface to trusted sources where business-safe.
  • Monitor vendor guidance and exploitation sources for a material change.

Verification

  1. Confirm that the asset runs typeorm typeorm and falls inside the recorded affected range.
  2. Recheck the vendor advisory before scheduling a change because no verified fixed version is currently retained.
  3. Validate exposure, authentication requirements and compensating controls in the actual environment.
  4. Reopen this reassessment when CVSS, KEV, EPSS, exploit evidence or remediation changes.

This automated reassessment organises public evidence. It does not know asset exposure, business impact or control effectiveness and does not replace CVSS or a human risk decision.

Summary
A flaw was found in TypeORM. TypeORM's `migration:generate` command, used for generating database migrations, embeds database schema metadata into JavaScript or TypeScript template literals. This process incorrectly escapes backticks but fails to escape interpolation, creating a vulnerability. An attacker with write access to the database schema can exploit this by injecting a malicious payload into column COMMENT or DEFAULT metadata. When the generated migration is subsequently loaded, the JavaScript engine evaluates this payload, leading to arbitrary code execution.
Remediation
No mitigation is available beyond upgrading to a fixed TypeORM release (0.3.31 or 1.1.0 or later) when available for the affected product. In the meantime, administrators should restrict write access to production database schema metadata (table and column comments and default values) and review generated migration files before running migration:run, import, or require against them.

What, why and how

TypeORM is a TypeScript and JavaScript ORM for Node.js that supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, SQL Server, Oracle, and other databases. Prior to versions 0.3.31 and 1.1.0, typeorm migration:generate embeds database schema metadata into JavaScript or TypeScript template literals in src/commands/MigrationGenerateCommand.ts, escaping backticks but not ${...} interpolation. An attacker with database schema write access can place a payload in column COMMENT or DEFAULT metadata, or another introspected schema string, and the JavaScript engine evaluates the payload when the generated migration is loaded through migration:run, import, or require. This issue is fixed in versions 0.3.31 and 1.1.0.

This issue is fixed in versions 0.3.31 and 1.1.0.

Why

Untrusted data can cross into a code-evaluation path and be interpreted as executable instructions.

How

An attacker operating through a network path may attempt exploitation with elevated privileges. If successful, the issue may cause the confidentiality, integrity or availability impact described by the vendor.

Exploit reality and attack path

CVSS severity, EPSS forecast probability, public exploit material and CISA-confirmed exploitation are separate signals.

Observed exploitation
?Confirmed exploitation and public exploit material are separate signals. Attacks can occur without public proof-of-concept or exploit code.
No confirmed evidence

No CISA KEV match was present at the last successful refresh. This means no confirmation from that source, not proof of no exploitation.

Public PoC / exploit material
?Confirmed exploitation and public exploit material are separate signals. Attacks can occur without public proof-of-concept or exploit code.
None recorded

No exploit-tagged reference or CISA SSVC proof-of-concept state is currently recorded. Research may still exist outside the structured feeds.

CWE-94: Improper Control of Generation of Code ('Code Injection'). The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment.
