Medium technical severity with no CISA KEV confirmation; remediate through the normal risk-based patch cycle unless local exposure raises the priority.
These OSV and GitHub advisory ranges apply only to the named package and ecosystem. A listed fixed version is not a universal product patch or proof that an update is installed.

Fix not verifiedElectron is a framework for writing cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Prior to versions 42.11.3, 43.7.0, 44.3.0, and 45.0.0-alpha.5, requests to open external protocol URLs could be attributed to a document other than the one that initiated them, causing the requestingUrl passed to session.setPermissionRequestHandler to identify trusted content for a launch requested by untrusted content. An application that grants openExternal based on the requesting origin and allows untrusted content to open or navigate windows could therefore allow that content to launch an OS-registered external application. This issue is fixed in versions 42.11.3, 43.7.0, 44.3.0, and 45.0.0-alpha.5.

The product does not properly verify that the source of data or communication is valid.
An attacker operating through a network path may attempt exploitation without authentication or user interaction. If successful, the issue may cause the confidentiality, integrity or availability impact described by the vendor.

CVSS severity, EPSS forecast probability, public exploit material and CISA-confirmed exploitation are separate signals.
No CISA KEV match was present at the last successful refresh. This means no confirmation from that source, not proof of no exploitation.
No exploit-tagged reference or CISA SSVC proof-of-concept state is currently recorded. Research may still exist outside the structured feeds.
