Evidence used

  • No CISA KEV confirmation is currently recorded.
  • EPSS is 22.17% for the current model date.

Compensating controls

  • Restrict local access and enforce least privilege on affected hosts.
  • Monitor vendor guidance and exploitation sources for a material change.

Verification

  1. Confirm that the asset runs Unknown Unknown and falls inside the recorded affected range.
  2. Recheck the vendor advisory before scheduling a change because no verified fixed version is currently retained.
  3. Validate exposure, authentication requirements and compensating controls in the actual environment.
  4. Reopen this reassessment when CVSS, KEV, EPSS, exploit evidence or remediation changes.
Mitigation target: As exposure requiresRemediation target: Within 365 days

This automated reassessment organises public evidence. It does not know asset exposure, business impact or control effectiveness and does not replace CVSS or a human risk decision.

Distribution package intelligence

Release-specific package status

Debian findings are scoped to the named distribution, release and source package. An absent finding does not mean a package is unaffected.

4 package states
Repository candidate not checked

A published vendor fix does not prove that a matching update is enabled and installable on a particular asset. Confirm the local package candidate before scheduling remediation.

What, why and how

named in ISC BIND 9.7.0 through 9.9.6 before 9.9.6-P2 and 9.10.x before 9.10.1-P2, when DNSSEC validation and the managed-keys feature are enabled, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (assertion failure and daemon exit, or daemon crash) by triggering an incorrect trust-anchor management scenario in which no key is ready for use.

What

named in ISC BIND 9.7.0 through 9.9.6 before 9.9.6-P2 and 9.10.x before 9.10.1-P2, when DNSSEC validation and the managed-keys feature are enabled, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (assertion failure and daemon exit, or daemon crash) by triggering an incorrect trust-anchor management scenario in which no key is ready for use.

Why

The current structured CVE record identifies a security weakness, but the root cause requires confirmation in the linked vendor material.

How

An attacker operating through the affected interface may attempt exploitation when the stated preconditions are met. If successful, the issue may disrupt the affected service.

Exploit reality and attack path

CVSS severity, EPSS forecast probability, public exploit material and CISA-confirmed exploitation are separate signals.

Observed exploitation
?Confirmed exploitation and public exploit material are separate signals. Attacks can occur without public proof-of-concept or exploit code.
No confirmed evidence

No CISA KEV match was present at the last successful refresh. This means no confirmation from that source, not proof of no exploitation.

Public PoC / exploit material
?Confirmed exploitation and public exploit material are separate signals. Attacks can occur without public proof-of-concept or exploit code.
None recorded

No exploit-tagged reference or CISA SSVC proof-of-concept state is currently recorded. Research may still exist outside the structured feeds.

Likely attack path
the affected interface → vulnerable operation → disrupt the affected service
Attack surface

None: unauthenticated exploitation is possible

ISC BIND 9 には、トラストアンカーの管理において、特定の条件下で named が終了する、サービス運用妨害 (DoS) の脆弱性が存在します。 ISC のアドバイザリには次のように記載されています。 CVE-2015-1349: A Problem with Trust Anchor Management Can Cause named to Crash https://kb.isc.org/article/AA-01235/ "BIND servers which are configured to perform DNSSEC validation and which are using managed-keys (which occurs implicitly when using "dnssec-validation auto;" or "dnssec-lookaside auto;") may terminate with an assertion failure when encountering all of the following conditions in a managed trust anchor: *a key which was previously trusted is now flagged as revoked; *there are no other trusted keys available; *there is a standby key, but it is not trusted yet This situation results in termination of the named process and denial of service to clients, and can occur in two circumstances: *during an improperly-managed key rollover for one of the managed trust anchors (e.g., during a botched root key rollover), or *when deliberately triggered by an attacker, under specific and limited circumstances. ISC has demonstrated a proof-of-concept of this attack; however, the complexity of the attack is very high unless the attacker has a specific network relationship to the BIND server which is targeted"
